A woman hears voices whilst sitting on a train. Surely they can’t be talking about her? Well if they are she’s got something to tell them!
As a woman of color, global feminist, songwriter, actor & musical artist, I’ve volunteered closely with organizations such as The Circle NGO and I also mentor to help empower young women & girls navigate challenges on their own journey.
I wrote “Nothing’s Wrong With Me” as an exploration of societal & cultural judgements voiced towards myself & women like me.
The kinds of statements delivered as silent “dressing downs”, sharp glance of disapproval & shame we all “know” would never dare be spoken out loud.
My own experiences of injustice and cruelty, as a woman and minority show how strongly these cultural “narratives” play their part in ensuring women and children remain safe & protected; their rights and wellbeing upheld.
This song declares for all who identify as women and beyond at our core “Nothing’s Wrong With Me!“, it’s for society to question how and why we are failing women and young girls and address the systemic prejudices holding out on progress.
